Change Your Boat was born from the same lifetime around the sea and the maritime industry that shaped Value Passage.
From sailing and racing from an early age, through nautical studies and years working within the maritime and yacht industry, one thing has become increasingly clear: the way we own, access and exchange assets, value and resources is changing.
For decades, moving from one significant asset to another has usually followed the same process: Sell. Create liquidity. Buy again.
We believe there can be another way.
Owners already hold considerable value in yachts, real estate, aircraft and other high-value assets. Their ambitions change. Their needs evolve. Their timing matters.
The value already exists. Our role is to connect it.Our model enables owners to explore different forms of exchange—including sailing yacht for sailing yacht—guided by their needs, interests and the experience they want next. When two owners recognise value in what the other offers, an exchange can preserve that value without forcing either yacht through liquidation first. The agreed value reflects market reality together with the condition of the assets, timing and the mutual interest of both owners.
Selling a significant yacht can take months or years. During that time, crew, maintenance, insurance, berthing, technical upkeep and operating costs continue whether the yacht is used or not. For a 40–50 metre yacht, this can easily mean millions in additional expenditure before the owner has moved into the next yacht. By the time the sale is complete, the yacht you originally wanted may no longer be available.
Not every yacht can be exchanged for every other yacht. Compatibility, timing and valuation matter. Our purpose is to create a new route with dedicated infrastructure.
New construction is becoming more expensive and complex, while delivery timelines remain long. Yet a newly delivered yacht may still experience its sharpest value adjustment during the early years of ownership. Much of the yacht market already moves through pre-owned vessels. For many owners, moving between well-maintained existing yachts is therefore not a compromise, but a considered use of time, capital and finite resources. Exchange gives that natural movement a more direct path.
Exceptional yachts can be refitted, upgraded and continuously improved. Strong engineering platforms evolve over time. Preserve the value. Change the opportunity.
We work across the yacht and maritime industry. Day boats, chase boats, RIBs, motor yachts, performance sailing yachts and long-range cruisers remain at the centre. Selected assets of established value may also form part of an exchange when they create the right opportunity.
Where an exchange is suitable, it can bring two owners’ plans into one coordinated transaction, reducing the need for separate sale and purchase processes. Owners and their appointed brokers lead self-managed transactions, supported by our listing and introduction platform. The 0.5% platform fee is agreed in writing before publication; any Value Passage brokerage service requires a separate assessment and mandate.
Change Your Boat supports public yacht discovery without making every part of an owner’s position public. Owner contact details, supporting documents and intentions remain private until a relevant opportunity has been reviewed. Controlled disclosure is not an additional service. It is part of the structure.
